With their now familiar format for entertainment, Wales MTC once again hit the heights in their exuberant performance of songs from various shows. Selections from “Cabaret”, “ Mary Poppins”, “Calamity Jane”, “Little Shop of Horrors”. and “Les Miserables” in the first half gave us a mixture of music from several genres stretching from the comedy of Cabaret to the moving numbers from Les Miserables.
The soloists and chorus work were of a very good standard, showing the audience the versatility of this group. It was good to hear the junior section singing a beautifully harmonised version of “Feed the Birds” from Mary Poppins. The children were obviously well trained and kept to the tempo and harmony with great aplomb, they certainly enjoyed it.
The second half again gave a wide selection from the old to the modern, something for everyone.
Alison Wade demonstrated her wonderful voice with all its powerful range, whilst Joseph Bairstow is certainly an up and coming talent within this group. Jess Lyons, Toni Lemm and Anna Kozak carried on as if there had been no break from the show of 12 months ago showing again their depth of talent and Dave Froggat excelled himself with one of the raucous numbers from “We Will Rock You” and Beth Vernon produced a completely hilarious version of “I Can’t Say No” from Oklahoma.
The show was certainly appreciated by a capacity audience.
Nicholas Challenger, the director has to be congratulated on putting together this musical extravaganza and Musical Director, David Burgess must be praised for his good arrangements of several of the numbers.
The Society, still fresh from its success at the NODA, North East Region’s Annual Gala Weekend should be pleased at their acheivements.
