Compilation productions of songs from the shows run the risk of being predicable and repetitive. The potential exists for audiences to be polite but are really thinking that they have seen and heard it all before.
Not so with this production.
Right from the beginning it made its mark with musical numbers from The Wiz and Wicked. The Defying Gravity number by the Adult Chorus was excellent.
The Junior Chorus segment from Jungle Book worked well. The enthusiasm was evident and the staged musical numbers were very entertaining.
Act one continued with Hairspray and was completed with numbers from Cabaret. A good point for a break.
In Act two I liked the harmonies in the Fame number Lets Play a Love Scene and the high level of energy in the Fame show title number.
The evening ended with musical numbers from The Blues Brothers. Sole Man and Think had the audience foot tapping and sent everyone home with smiles on their faces.
The production was presented with musical numbers from the Junior Chorus, Senior Chorus, Adult Chorus, Full Company and individual soloists and groupings.
I must mention Brandon Fletcher, Alison Wade, Joseph Bairstow and Dan Scofield, but all soloists, duets and groups sang and entertained well.
Chorus movement was effective and the costuming was just right for a songs from the show type of production.
Congratulations to everyone involved.
