Shakespeare in Love is based on the screenplay by Marc Norman and Tom Stoppard adapted for the stage by Lee Hall with music by Paddy Cunneen. The play tells of a fictional love affair between Will Shakespeare and a young would-be actor, Viola de Lesseps aka Tom Kent.
For me there were three stand out performances.
Joshua Ogle – Will Shakespeare – gave an exceptional performance capturing the character beautifully. His commitment to the role was evident and this was a faultless performance.
Dan burrows – kit Marlowe – a difficult role to play with such a journey for the character throughout the play. A well worked on and excellent performance.
Laura Day – Viola De Lesseps – was excellently played and executed the complicated Shakespearean verse with ease. Again another faultless performance.
This was an impressively large cast who worked very hard, producing some very creditable performances creating some very nice pieces of theatre. Excellent team work, good delivery of dialogue, clear diction all made for a polished performance from a very talented cast.
The set design was excellent and functional to the demands of the play. Costumes were spot on. Lighting by lightsource Production Services added to the overall feel of the production.
The director had cast the play well, everyone fitting his/her roles well, and the production had lots of beautiful performances. An excellently directed production.
An excellent piece of teamwork. Well done to everyone involved.
