Seussical by Reading Operatic Society at The Kenton Theatre was, quite simply, a joyful and psychedelic journey through the wonderfully eccentric world of Dr Seuss. From the moment the curtain rose on Oh, The Thinks You Can Think, the audience was swept into a high-energy, colour-filled production that rarely let its pace drop. This was a bold, colourful, and thoroughly enjoyable production that captured the spirit of Seuss with energy and imagination. The musicality and choreography were real strengths, performed by a committed and talented cast.
This was a show bursting with imagination. The choreography was ambitious and impressively executed for a cast of this size, the harmonies in the big numbers were exceptional, and the overall sense of ensemble was strong and cohesive. There were some genuinely inspired creative touches, not least the ultraviolet jellyfish sequence, which was both clever and beautifully realised.
Direction and choreography were outstanding. The scale of the choreography, combined with the clarity of staging for such a large cast, was hugely impressive. There was a real sense that every performer had purpose and space, which is no small achievement.
