Jane Austen’s classic has been updated by Jessica Swale into this play, following the story of the Dashwood family. Director David Balfour has a very good cast, and the costumes are just right. The set is simple but very effective having an upper and lower level depending on the scene. Lighting and sound are also good.

Michele Arkle as Elinor is very good in her role as the eldest sister, Emma Davis is lovely as Marianne, and Shana Cooper plays Margaret, she has some great comedy moments. They have all worked hard on their characterisations and work very well together. Ingrid Bond completes the family as mother.

John & Fanny Dashwood are played by Shawn Condra and Hannah Marks, suitably nasty making the family move out of the house after the death the girls' father. They move to a small house, where Jenny Green as Mrs Jennings brings lots of comedy and likes to be the matchmaker for the girls.

Vic Milne plays two parts Edward and John Ferrars, the first being Elinors favorite. Jack Barnett, as Willoughby, who Marianne falls for at the expense of Colonel Brandon played by Richard Barnett. There are some very funny moments as he is turned down frequently.

There are lots of other characters that all make the story flow along nicely, and you could tell everyone was enjoying themselves. The play was well received by the audience. Well done to all those involved.
