Following the success of Murdered to Death, which won the District 14 Best Drama Award earlier this year, The Wraysbury Players followed up with the second of Peter Gordon’s trilogy of spoof Agatha Christie murder mysteries set in 1939 just before the start of the Second World War. Brilliantly promoted on social media by an excellent outdoor filmed video introducing the suspects, it promised another amusing night of murder mystery with a cast of stereotypical guests and householder staff.

The table seating created a warm friendly atmosphere and a community party feel and the audience were thoroughly entertained by the ludicrously complex plot involving a Murder Mystery party, wartime espionage and a collection of characters with dual identities. Its full of comic opportunities, littered with malapropisms, innuendo and puns and hints of the farcical Fawlty Towers and ‘Allo ‘Allo in the interactions. It takes its inspiration from Agatha Christie’s classic, And then there were none as the body count mounts you lose track of who is who and who is dead!

The production is very well dressed, with excellent well-made costumes that helped define the characters and good practical elements to the set which delivered several clever twists. Loud appropriate off stage sound effects added to the fun. Six of last year’s cast returned, three in the same or similar roles in a cast of ten, so it was clear from the start that they were enjoying playing the parts as much as we were enjoying watching and in Amateur theatre that is the sign of a very good show.
