SÉANCE FOR MURDER by Angela Lanyon was performed as a radio play and set in the dining room of Alice Parkin, a clairvoyant. Alice has arranged a séance and those invited included her daughter, a reporter and a jobsworth council worker. Throw in a nosy neighbour, plenty of bickering and a few unexpected events and you’ve got an evening of great comic potential.
The hall (barn) was set out cabaret style with tables and the Front of House staff were welcoming. Refreshments were offered before, during and after the show. Patrons were welcomed and shown to their seats and the evening was waitress service. To add to the enjoyment of the evening there was a fun quiz. As this was performed as a radio play, there was no set. The audience could observe the sound effects and lighting being operated.
With a cast made up of Holy Ridiculous regulars, including Alexandra Munoz who’s company provided the (excellent) meal during the evening. The characters were well established the action was easy to follow as the scene was set and the murder took place. After the interval, there were recriminations, accusations and confessions. Under the direction of Pam Gutteridge with Derek Gutteridge in charge of all technical aspects, this was an evening of enthusiasm and energy that sent the audience home smiling. .
