This is not an easy show and contains musical numbers that are not over familiar to viewers and a challenging requirement of the cast and production team to bring the drama and music alive for an eager audience.
The part of Ebenezer Scrooge is a real challenge as, if nothing else, he is hardly off the stage. David Cameron worked extremely hard in his portrayal of the character and his performance of tricky songs. He was supported well by a busy cast of more than 40, several playing more than one part and doing chorus work and many of whom are from the local area. In particular Harvey Beck was excellent as Young Ebenezer and 3 other roles. I enjoyed Anna Bant as Tiny Tim Cratchit, John Whittle was just right as Jacob Marley and Andrew Eastwood also stood out as Mr Fezziwig.
There was very good use of the extended stage, depicting Scrooge's room to far stage right. and the whole set was simple and effective.
I felt at times that the show was a bit static and lacked some pace. However the society stretched itself with this production and credit is due to everyone involved.
