This was a first-rate production of” School of Rock “by Axminster Drama Club Youth who are getting a good reputation for putting on great productions!

I was simply amazed by the energy, vitality and vibe put into “School of Rock”, you could feel the enjoyment the cast were getting out of it and the audience were lapping it up!

Dewey was excellent, never wavered, never tired, he put his heart and soul into his character and keeping up both his singing and speaking voice very well indeed.

The Head mistress played it so well as a traditional straightlaced teacher who certainly let her hair down eventually.

Ther was a good account of the hen-pecked partner of Patty, trying his best not to upset his friend Dewey, you could feel genuine sympathy for him as he tried to keep the peace between everyone.

Patty gave a wonderful performance not only dominating but acting with great passion.

There are so many in the cast, far too many to mention but they all did so well and were impressive.

The music was great, and the cast really worked well in coordinating with the stage instruments Really authentic and very well done, with a special mention of the drummer.

The songs came over well and “Stick it to the Man” was superb!

To sing with recorded music can be difficult at the best of times with not only getting the timing right but pitching it. In this show it was done with great skill, so credit not only to the cast, but also   to the Musical Director Annebel MacKenny.

The choreography was simply stunning, and Matilda Leat clearly has the ability to go far not only in her acting skills, but in her choreography!

Heartiest congratulations to the Director Sara Leat and to Clair May her assistant, the whole performance kept pace and utilized the whole stage with great confidence.

This performance of “School of Rock” was a first-rate production not all societies can pull off, but Axminster Drama club certainly did.   It was a night to remember and judging by the audience they will too!

Just a footnote, a bit of a shame there was no printed programme, no crib sheet for the reviewer and no keepsake for the many family members who attended to support their youngsters. I know it is online, but it is not the same! Just a personal opinion!
