I was delighted to be invited to review Saturday, Sunday, Monday a play performed by the Henley Players. The play written by Eduardo De Filippo is set in Naples in 1959 and reflects three days in the lives of a feuding post war Italian family and weaves in misunderstandings in a marriage, a lover's quarrel, and conflict between family and friends. This production has been two years in the making having been cancelled three times due to the pandemic and I understand with many cast changes between the original casting and performance. It was great to see so many people on stage and in the audience.

The director had obviously worked hard with the cast on their characterisations and the relationships between the characters. It can be hard with such a large cast to bring everything together, but it was clear that the cast worked well together as a team. There were some great characterisations and I felt that the cast captured the essence of an extended Italian family with all its idiosyncrasies very well. The stage space was quite small due to the large number of set pieces, but the actors moved well around the stage with very little blocking. I liked the costumes and the set and there was a lot of attention to detail to make it authentic and appropriate to the period.

I enjoyed the play and am so pleased that you were finally able to bring it to an audience.
