This play by Bob Larbey has the lovely gentle humour of his other plays and sitcoms. It tells of the Pattersons and the Billetts who annually occupy their sea view beach huts and look on the surrounding grass as their own private area with their own unwritten rules. Their peaceful world is shattered by new occupants in the middle hut and by other less fortunate holiday makers who come along and claim the right to sit in front of the beach huts.
The large cast of seventeen were all, without exception, excellent in their roles and I don't want to single anyone out but well done to Kelsey and Charlotte for 'dipping their toes' into the action so well. The humour was brought out to the full and the good mix of characters made for an interesting and varied production.
The set really made you feel as if you were actually at the seaside and there was a lovely holiday atmosphere when we arrived in the theatre. The beach huts were suitably cluttered with all the items you would need for a day at the beach and each hut had its own individual character. You could sense that a lot of thought had been given to the look of this play with careful attention given to costume.
In the end the beach hut owners defended their 'castles' well and the interlopers retreated but, as with many comedies, there was a sad twist at the end.
A very enjoyable evening where we passed through a variety of emotions thanks to this well written play and good direction. Well done to everyone, this was a production to be proud of.
