Once again Brassneck Theatre quite literally rocked Yeadon Town Hall. I think that I have run out of superlatives to describe their shows, they are just fantastic.
Set in Dennis Dupree's bar a romance begins between Drew (Nigel Passey), a young man who wants to hit the big time and Sherrie (Brogan Hollindrake) a small town hopeful. These two were delightful together and their strong singing voices joined well together.
The show was narrated by Lonny (Phil Yeadon) and his wicked humour went down well with the audience. Richard Lioyd as Dennis was, as ever, very easy to watch and to listen to. I have to say that they made a lovely couple.
When Stacee (Ben Tomlinson), front man for the band 'Arsenal' takes a shine to Sherrie things start to go wrong. This part was made for Ben and he certainly gave it his all.
Emily Kyle as Regina was an outstandingly quirky rebel, fighting to save the bar. She fought off the father and son partnership of Herz (Andrew Walton) and Franz (Richard Mace) eventually winning Franz's heart. The German duo were a great contrast to the rest of he cast as was Paul Chewins as the greedy mayor.
What held the show together was the quality of the band, on stage all the time and giving their all. Company numbers were magical to watch and to listen to with such energy and precision. It was no wonder that the audience were moved to join in.
I did worry in the first half that with so much rocking music I had lost the thread of the story and the characters but it was all made clear in the second half when things calmed down a little.
As ever it was fabulous set with the usual clever lighting leaving little need for extra scenery. The costumes were eye catching and wigs were so convincing I had trouble recognizing people.
Well done to all, I really can't wait to see where you go from here.
