This was another super evening’s entertainment from a society well into their weekly Summer panto run.  In fact I felt it was their best panto offering for some time as the script was pretty strong and an experienced cast made the very most of what they were given.

The booing, hissing and cheering was evident from the start when Russell Fallon appeared as baddie Black Beard, giving a good performance as usual.  Joe Porte was excellent as Captain Plughole showing a great rapport with the audience and using his eyes and ears well.  David Cameron played Billy Crusoe and was as good as I’ve seen him in this type of role and the comic routines also involving Hornsea’s superb resident Dame, Ian Thompson (Mrs Crusoe), were very funny.

I liked the performance of Jake Baines as Robinson Crusoe and Hannah Fallon was endearing as Spirit of the Northern Star.  There was also some very good back up from Tim Drage (Man Friday), Anna Bant (Polly Plughole), Phil Wilson and Bethany Peart-Hunter (Henchman and Henchwoman), Margaret A Lupton (Queen of the Coral) and a very enthusiastic chorus of almost twenty energetic singers and dancers.

Musical numbers were plentiful and kept short, the choreography was slick, the set colourful and effective and the costumes, as always here, absolutely marvellous.

It’s not easy doing weekly shows with, sometimes, a varying cast, but everyone involved kept this show going pretty much throughout.  Great fun for everyone!
