I am ashamed to admit that since my Children and Grandchildren have grown up, quite a while ago, I have not to a Newport Pantomime Society Panto. It’s such a shame that a Society that used to fill the theatre for 1-2 weeks with evening and matinee performances are now down to less than a week,
I saw this show and realised what I had been missing, all the elements were there, catchy tunes, slapstick comedy, hero and heroine to cheer and villains to boo and hiss at and the obligatory “He’s behind you”
Robinson (Lisa Davis) and Polly (Lee-rose Walsh) were well paired and both sang and acted well. The Comedy came in various forms Wally ( Ryan Salter) and Ruby Crusoe (Leon Yem) were perfect foils for each other, and gave us the slap-stick element that had us all laughing, Man Friday Nathan Taylor Sir Charles and Lady Prudence all comedy roles that were well played and we had a convincing “Jack Sparrow” in Gerald Needs
My only criticism was that the words for the “Sing- A- Long” were a little too small and could not be easily read, but the set was lovely and bright and the singing and dancing had been well rehearsed, as I would expect from this production team.
The audience thoroughly appreciated this production and it was a shame to see the empty seats, but they didn’t know what they were missing. Well done to all involved.
Thank you, for the warm welcome and I hope to see you again.
