This pantomime certainly ‘ticks all the required boxes’ but with one notable difference. This is a ‘mash-up’ of two fairy tales which have basically been wrapped into one show. The script roughly follows story of Robin Hood, and his band of merry men, but it has been expanded to include a vital sub-plot. Here, Robin must also save two innocent babes from being murdered by the evil, money-grabbing Sheriff of Nottingham. The reason to do so was to create that ‘good versus bad’ situation which simply must exist in every pantomime. After all, a pantomime audience must have someone to loudly boo and hiss.
A central ethos at BCP has always been its support for local charities and community groups. The raising of much needed funds is always welcome and I’m certain the Missing Persons Charity would have greatly appreciated your support during this production. This practice is a fabulous example of community involvement and one to be greatly admired.
Although the plot initially takes a little bit of time to get going there is certainly enough there to keep both adults and children in the audience entertained and involved. The archery completion (including strobe lighting) was well-coordinated, the ‘It’s behind you’ sequence suitably boisterous and the ‘found just in time’ game of hide-and-seek was well-timed. Overall, another successful pantomime venture for the society.
Congratulations again to everyone at Barnes Community Players for putting this production together and thanks for inviting me along. I look forward to visiting again in 2020 and enjoying future scheduled productions.
