“Rhythm of Life” was a revue musical designed by the director, to narrate a journey through life; incorporating the many stages and experiences that a person might encounter. I thought that it was a very Clever concept that came over very well and it was certainly an excellent show.
I thought that the show was very well put together. It had a selection of very popular musical numbers, but many of the numbers in this show were songs that I had not heard before. They were all performed to a very high standard, accompanied by a very nice four piece band playing the wonderful musical arrangements,
There was an excellent children’s ensemble who were extensively used in the first half of the show. I really enjoyed the tap dance routine “When I get my name in lights “and I was very impressed with “Mama Who Bore Me”
I loved the different interpretations of many of the songs, I particular enjoyed,” Match Maker” three mature ladies looking for love. “I Don’t Know How To Love Him” which was arranged as an excellent quartet and my personal favourite was “I am What I am” which added a lovely touch of humour to the show
The Salisbury Art Centre is an old church, that has be converted into a multipurpose venue, it is perhaps not ideally suited for a production like this where you need to get large numbers of cast, on and off the stage quickly, together with tables, chairs etcetera. It must have took a lot of planning to make the changes work and in the semi darkness it did look a little chaotic. However, it all seemed to work well without disrupting the flow of the show too much.
A very entertaining evening that was very enjoyable, congratulations to all concerned
