Return to the Forbidden Planet is what is termed by some as a Jukebox musical by playwright Bob Carlton based on Shakespeare's The Tempest, full of songs of the 50/60s.
J. Rhys Davies – Captain Tempest. Was well cast and gave a strong performance and didn’t miss any opportunity getting the audience in the palm of his hands. He anchored the show with confidence and great vocals.
Anthony Cannon-Jones – Prospero. Was very well conveyed and had just the right amount of menace and maintained this characterisation throughout.
Tracey Coleman – Science Officer. Brought life to the character and engaged the audience well. As always a strong performance.
The main cast were ably supported by Alex Brent – Cookie, Amy Perry – Miranda, Aled Jones-Pritchard – Ariel, Lesley Collier-Roberts – Bosun, Mike Gelder – Navigation Officer and Leanne Algeo – News Broadcaster, each giving well defined characterisations.
Although the Principals drove this production the work of the chorus is not to be overlooked. They were energetic and remained focused and enthused throughout.
The fixed star-ship set worked well for this production and complimented the production. Costumes were colourful and appropriate to the period.
There was a really good atmosphere in the hall with an audience participating as and when required.
Congratulations to all involved.
