Although this is an old story and not often performed, this was the first time I had seen Rapunzel, and it was good to see something fresh. It was evident the Company had worked hard in their rehearsals and they had great support from the audience with their final performance.

The show was opened by newcomer Gabbey Allan as Fairy who introduced the scene in rhyme. Her smile radiated throughout the performance and she gave encouragement to the younger members of the Company. I hope this was the first of many performances for the group. There was a large cast – too many to mention each character but each one giving of their best.

Eirlys Walker brought all her experience to the role of Quinn, the hero, good all round performance and spot on in all musical numbers, whilst Lydia Newman-Walker was well cast in the title role. Rachel Jones notched up another success as the formidable Dame Trot and Pierce Jones coped well with his role as Harold. Ruth Purton revelled in her role as Gothel, the King’s sister, who did everything in her power to take the kingdom from her brother, she received the appropriate ‘Boos’ from the audience each time she entered, and was supported by an enthusiastic Buboe, played by experienced Zoe Thompson together with another confident performance from young Bethan Purton as the sidekick. Tim Morris and Olwen Jones did all that was required of them as King and Queen respectively whilst Crevice played by Caitlin Jones fully justified her selection. There were many minor roles, all well executed by members of the cast.

Great contribution from the younger members of the cast who thoroughly enjoyed their chance to demonstrate their talents on stage, the chorus numbers were well rehearsed and delivered. Costumes were well thought out and stage crew and technical staff worked hard to make the piece flow without pause. I felt the panto itself was a little long and was prompted by some ad libs from the cast in this their final performance, nevertheless, a very enjoyable performance from this enthusiastic Company and I congratulate them on keeping Amateur Theatre live in Anglesey.
