This jazz compilation “Puttin ‘on the Jazz “was well planned, thought out and performed
The set, costumes and lighting were stunning. The auditorium set out, lit and decorated in such a way as to make the audience feel they were in a traditional American jazz club. The choreography was excellent and along with the different staging was pleasing and varied. The difficulty with a compilation can be to ring enough changes to keep it interesting, this show certainly did, that by varying the voices; following solos with groups and creating an audience anticipation.
Everyone involved put a tremendous amount of work into this show, everyone staying in character, even when they were just background to whoever was the main act at the time.
There were so many performers, all extremely good but some stood out as particularly able jazz performers
"Georgia on my Mind" with Lance Vernon was sung wonderfully well with poise and great sensitivity.
Ann Killoran "Cry me a River" was performed beautifully, and the Ladies with "Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend" was great.
"All about the bass" sung by Hannah Caygill was superbly done, Hannah has a voice just made for jazz singing.
The Men with "King of the Swingers" made me want to get up there and join them, great fun and the audience loved it.
This show was something rather special, with a very high standard of performance by all the company. Heartiest congratulations to Simon Carter, Musical Director, who obviously relished every moment of this show and whose own skill on the keys was quite superb. The band "All Jazzed Up" supported by Josh Westrip and Will Humphreys did an amazing job and the singers certainly benefited from such excellent accompaniment.
Jo Killoran& Kim Newton have done a magnificent job along with the Debbie Butler and Kate Lees on Choreography and Direction.
