Both music and libretto tests the singing and acting of all concerned - so not one of the easier or popular G & S Operettas - I'm not saying any of them are easy!!! Due to holidays I didn't see last years production, but from the programme there appeared to be quite a few new members, also a few principals relinquishing their principal parts for the back row of the chorus. All principals worked hard. Hilarion (Richard Nortcliffe), Florian (Steve Hibbert) and Cyril (Chris Elliott) worked well together particularly in "Gently, gently". Good characterisation from King Hildebrand (Michael Bond) and King Gama (Timothy Whitebread). Arac (Ray Smith), Guron (Steve Broomhead) and Scynthius (Ray Whitaker) were excellent. Loren Parker playing her first lead role as Princess Ida acted the part very well but some of her singing lacked confidence. Lady Blanche (Lindsay Whitaker), Lady Psyche (Jenny Parker) and Melissa (Tina Huckle) worked well together. The chorus did well with their four-part harmony and movement. Well done to the scenery and lighting teams, also the wardrobe and props teams. Also well done to the music ensemble and to the musical director who had her right arm in a sling and kept losing her baton!!!
