Starmaker Theatre Company delivered a high-energy and colourful production of Popstars: The 90s Musical, celebrating the iconic sounds and styles of the decade while giving the young performers a brilliant chance to shine on stage. From the moment the cast burst into action, it was clear that this was a show created with enthusiasm, confidence and a strong sense of fun. Although the plot was very predictable and not particularly engaging, the group were clearly enjoying themselves, and the choreography was slick throughout. The production successfully captured the feel of a 90s talent-show world, with efficient pacing and clear storytelling that kept the audience engaged throughout. The director should be commended for presenting a well-structured show that allowed each character their moment, while maintaining momentum and variety across the performance.

Musical Direction was secure keeping the performances upbeat and well-paced while supporting the performers throughout. The lively choreography, suited both the style of the show and the performers’ abilities, giving the cast plenty of opportunity to move confidently and expressively without losing precision.
