Play On!

For a predominantly musical theatre company, Play On! was an ambitious play for Havering Music Makers to take on. It’s a sort of cross between Noises Off and The Play That Goes Wrong, with a clear purpose of making the audience laugh. As with all good comedy Play On! requires precision, discipline and timing and the HMM cast and crew rose to the challenge magnificently and made ‘em laugh!

This play is about the rehearsal period of fairly dreadful farce and how the cast members cope with a passionate author who keeps making changes and turns up to check on progress. The actors therefore play two characters each; one in Play On! and the other in Murder Most Foul. This cast made the contrast stand out and with clever playing there was no doubt which play the audience were watching.   

Above all this was a terrific ensemble piece with the actors gelling together and the whole being much more than the sum of its parts. In Play On! we saw a team working and collaborating together to make for a very funny evening. 

This is a good play and worth considering.
