Another street party – what fun! Stonecross Hall was set out with long tables and decorated with red, white and blue balloons. The evening was directed by Susan Beck and Sue Davies and we were treated to song and dance from all the decades of our lovely Queen’s reign. It was a shame that the children from the APA Academy of Performing Arts were not able to be with The Haven Players that evening but the Company gave great value in everything they did – excellent work from all the soloists and the ensemble.
They sang their hearts out and moved very well on the small stage with choreography by Amy Baker. There were some gremlins who had made their way into the sound system at the beginning of the proceedings but the performers coped very well with this glitch.
We were all provided with pen and paper as there was an ongoing quiz as to who had originally performed the songs that were being sung by the soloists or the company. I didn’t do very well but some people were busily writing throughout so I’m sure there was a winner!
The costumes changed with virtually every decade – talk about quick change artists! Well done to Kirsti Bennett-Koster, the Wardrobe Co-ordinator.
The songs were sung to recorded music which worked very well.
Many people were involved backstage – stage management, choreography, sound & lighting etc. The audience were invited to bring their own picnic but many thanks as well to the catering team who provided the always welcome tea and coffee in the interval. Congratulations to Susan and Sue who brought everything together.
A very enjoyable evening – a real Jubilee Celebration.
