Forty Years of memories, one committee meeting, one decision, what show to do next? Will they ever decide?
This production celebrated 40 years of Foodlights when back in 1977 they took to the stage and produced the well-known musical Oliver!
Pingleford Players written and directed by Allison Butler was certainly a production that I will remember for a very long time. Her vision and passion was very evident in her writing and direction.
Trevor the Chairman played by Stephen Butler gave a confident performance and showed great enthusiasm and I feel that I must mention his rendition of Sweet Transvestite which was videoed and projected onto a screen representing the dreams he had of performing. Margery the Secretary played by Marianne Osborne had great stage presence and was most certainly a loveable character. Hugh the treasurer played by Marten Lewis was an incredibly humorous character with his lack of mathematical skills and not really knowing the finances of which he was in charge. Meryl the publicity officer played by Jocelyn Aveyard was a strong character and gave enthusiasm and passion when performing. Brain the set designer played by Christopher Tilbury gave a good performance and has certainly grown as an actor since I have had the pleasure of reviewing him in a previous production. Judith the director played by Andrea Thomas was an absolute sensation to watch on stage, a larger than life character with her outstandingly camp number. Neil the technical whiz played by Jordan Dickin was a character which certainly thought outside the box but often his imagination could be somewhat unrealistic but he was a very well thought of character and his duet with Brain the set designer was incredibly funny!
Mavis the tea lady played by Allison Butler, the woman behind this creative production, was simply incredible! Those that have been in amateur theatre for some years would have met a Mavis along the way, her Catherine Tate like personality certainly had the audience roaring with laughter! Mavis also made Luke my partner and I shed a little tear with her sudden death.
This production was supported by a well-rehearsed ensemble who worked tirelessly to bring the production together.
Again I think that this was an incredible production and Saundersfoot Footlights should be incredibly proud! Congratulations to all involved.
