CLOGS Musical Theatre – The Clogettes
PETER PAN JR
It is always a pleasure to see CLOGS Musical Theatre’s Clogettes and this production was no exception. Peter Pan Jr was The Clogettes’ most ambitious show to date and it really came off!
The set and the staging were very good. The den for the Lost Boys was set at the back behind a cloth and was really well-designed and decorated and worked really well. The other scenes – the Darling children’s bedroom and the deck of Hook’s ship were all set in-front. Scene changes were quick and well-managed by the crew, giving a great flow to the production. There was a good use of projection too to enhance the staging – the flying sequence worked particularly well. The lighting design gave a good use of colour and effects to help create the right atmosphere. Not all of the cast had radio microphones, but where used they were well-cued and managed and could be heard.
The costumes were fantastic and a real feature of the production. From the Lost Boys to the Pirates, the Darlings and the Brave Girls, the costumes were colourful, detailed and very well co-ordinated. The lights in Tinkerbell’s wings were fab and the Crocodile costume was amazing. Properties too were great too – from the Cake to the Clock
In reviewing the principal performances:
- Peter Pan. Sang, danced and acted with total confidence with great articulation and some brilliant comic timing. Very well-done.
- Wendy. This was a confident, assured and delightful performance, in a part that is difficult to play.
- Michael and John. Both performances were really well put-together, with Michael getting some of the best lines in the show!
- Tinkerbell. Some really lovely movement and mime acting. You really got the moody nature of the Character too!
- Hook. Very confidently done – you seem to really enjoy the fun of playing the villain of the piece. A great performance!
- Smee. Very nicely done as Hook’s down-trodden side-kick. Very entertaining.
- Tiger Lilly. You were suitably brave and sang and danced your numbers really well!
- Mr and Mrs Darling. Playing adults is always difficult in a youth production, but you both kept these two parts going really well.
- Nana and the Crocodile. Both made their parts real features of the show (particularly the crocodile singing in the curtain call song!).
The supporting cast all did really well – always staying in character, be they Pirates, Lost Boys or Brave Girls. The dancing was lovely (the Brave Girls dance in particular was very strong) and there was some strong singing too to the backing tracks.
In summary, this was a lovely afternoon of entertainment from The Clogettes. This group are going from strength to strength and I greatly look forward to your future productions!
