My first review of the year was to see New Forrest Players – Peter Pan. Sarah Haberfield is the director/choreographer who has a great line up of principals and cast with this colourful production. The singing is of a high standard, with great chorus and principal numbers under the watchful eye of Lee Redwood as the Musical Director.
The set and backcloths were good, and the costumes bright. The chorus all look like they are having fun, and the younger girls double up as the Indians and Lost Boys. The show in true tradition has Peter, Wendy and Captain Hook all flying.
Shannon Fisher takes the lead as Peter, and she plays the part very well, showing great confidence and stage presence in her role. Emma Hardy plays Wendy and comes over as very kind and caring for Peter and the lost boys as their ‘Mother’. They work very well together, and Emma is one to watch out for in the future.
Emily-Jane Charge is wonderful as Tinkerbell, She is stroppy and jealous with anything concerning Wendy when Peter is around.
Chris Marsh is wonderful as the evil Captain Hook, he has some great lines and had his evil and scariness just right. Jack Haberfield is suitably good as Smee, he has a cheeky smile and he gets the audience on his side and singing along with him. The other pirate is Alfie Bloor as Starkey, making his debut with NFP. He is following on nicely in Jack’s footsteps, they work well together.
Martin Mansfield takes on the role of Tiger Lily. The Dame type character of the show. He has some very funny lines and acts well with all the other characters, bringing comedy and pace. He definitely seems to be enjoying himself. There are some lovely characterisations from the smaller roles too, too many to mention.
Well done to everyone involved in the production.
