Driving to The Brook theatre on Friday I was thinking to myself, how on earth are they going to Fly Peter and the Darlings. I have worked the Brook and there are no facilities for flying, let alone the expense if they did. I need not have been concerned as Adam Waters (Director), had it “sorted” the cast in “blacks” lifted all of them in slick movement, great!! I heard a women next to me say, OMG I didn’t expect that, and to be honest nether did I, well done Adam.
Adam ‘gloriously’ directed this Peter Pan with a great deal of thought. He chose his cast well, along with Peter Bailey (MD) and Bethany Kimber and Amy Allen as choreographers. The band was balanced, and dance routines were slick. A super talented young Joe Warrilow took the lead as Peter and he owned that stage, both in acting and voice…. Superb!…along with the Darlings Wendy (Rhea Baker), John, (Charlotte Galea), Michael (Xanthe Gwatkin) and toffee-nosed Mum and Dad (Jeni Boyns and James Alexander Stacey), a well teamed family. Nanny Nora, what can I say, a Diana Doors lookalike (only some will remember) Marianna Allen what a performance, you rocked it, your balance was perfect, your facial nuances excellent…well done.
Carley Harwood as Tiger Lily thrilled us once again with her glorious singing and acting. Emma Constantine gave us the comedy as Smee and her timing was very good. Now to Captain Hook (Emilio Nieta) a two legged nasty piece of work, great characterisation from Emilio and that lovely bass voice. Tinkerbell Laura Stoneman (Tink for short) gave us a tinkering performance, well-done Laura. Supporting roles were Nina (Megan Chapman), Tootles (Rachel Heard), Nibs (Jay Kitto), Slightly(Tom Ross), Starkey (Aidan Harwood), Mermaid (Shona Draper).
Costumes as per usual from GDS were excellent as were the props. Adam Waters you gave us a very professionally directed Peter Pan, choosing an ideal cast and you directed them to a very high standard, using all the stage, which at the Brook isn’t easy. I don’t know if this is your début at directing; if it is please keep it up. GDS you did it again by bringing good entertainment to the Medway towns in the form of pantomime, and your audience certainly enjoyed it as did my guest and I.
