CLOGS Musical Theatre and their youth section, ‘The Clogettes’ produced another wonderful evening’s entertainment to a packed St Peter’s Church for a special ‘One Night Only’ performance.
The compilation show didn’t feel the need for a particular theme (content had a nice range from Show Tunes, through to Jazz and Pop), other than to demonstrate the depth of talent in the Society as it showcased many established, returning and new performers. It is on the latter two groups that I’d particularly like to mention, as there are just too many great performances to mention. It was great to see more people coming forward from the Company to show their talents – Ella Taylor and Lucy Stevenson’s lovely rendition of ‘For Good’, Kirsty Robertson’s performance in ‘My House’ from ‘Matilda’ and Erin Vanzillotti-Weaver and Jennie Woloshuk’s powerful ‘Maybe This Time’ are just some to mention. It was particularly nice to also welcome back Oli Hounsell. His rendition of ‘This is the Moment’ was truly stunning – very well done. We were also able to see some song and dance solo performances from the next generation of performers through the Clogettes and if anything, we were left wanting to see more of them.
As well as the solos, we were treated to some excellent chorus singing, with a Simon and Garfunkel medley a real highlight from the main group for the end of Act 1, and a rendition of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘True Colours’ from the Clogettes. There was also a wonderful big finish with a joint performance of ‘This Is Me’ from the very popular ‘The Greatest Showman’. The music was well put-together by Peter French, whom supported from the Piano and co-ordinated Alex Auld on drums very well. There was some very nice choreography from Poppy Dall’Occo in her first main production as Choreographer, with the Ladies’ performance of ‘All That Jazz’ a particular highlight.
The venue and the heat of a particularly warm evening made this a difficult show to control technically for both sound and the lighting. Though there may have been some balance issues in some parts of the hall, changes between performers were smooth and effective.
Creative Director Debi Weaver should be well-pleased with what she had been able to achieve for ‘One Night Only’. Thank you again CLOGS for a terrific evening’s entertainment.
