Nunthorpe players evening of "One night only" provided an entertaining review styled evening with their cabaret layout. Act 1 opened with a drama piece based around a workshop class for drama with teacher and 6 students, that gave some lovely characterisations by each of the members, and all script heard clearly. The scenarios given to the students involved varying scenes, family strife, court room battle, nursery rhymes pairs, all giving some lovely comedy moments and a clever twist on what was the expected content, whilst teacher "Jilly" secretly turned out to be scouting for her own ends. Very nice piece.

The first act then concluded with the Steps Dance School kids and players singing "Any Dream Will Do" which had nice voices and good harmonies.

The second act was a good variety of show songs, opening with the saucy "Cell block Tango" by Players ladies, choreographed well. The Steps Dance School kids gave a medley of sailor songs, with nice singing and dance choreography that was rehearsed well. The Grenfell version of "Bridge over troubled water" with solo from Erica Shanks Davison was a nice touch and sung well too.  Eve Smith gave a really nice performance for her poem "Teenage girls" with an account of historic women who in fact were all teenagers, well delivered. Young Emily Hancock sang her solo "Bring me to life" beautifully whilst one of the Steps School danced a beautiful ballet behind her to it. The school kids performed a great version of footloose, before the show finished with a taster of their up and coming pantomime.

The evening concluded with award ceremony for the society's Andrew Barkew award given to the person who has done outstanding work and congratulations to Liz Taylorson, as this year's winner.

Thank you Nunthorpe Players for a very pleasant evening.
