Four short comedy/dramas Monologues written by Stewart Grant, Leonie Thompson, Jane Scamption, Chris Brannick, Richard Moon.

With our weather being so miserable, what better way to cheer everyone up than to visit Emley Drama Group and be entertained by the delights of various short sketches, dramas, monologues and musical interludes, all having a theme of “Once in a Blue Moon”.   The style of the evening was like that used over eighty years ago when the drama group was established. What a wonderful way to celebrate.

The experienced members of the drama group, Anna Fearnley, John Varlow, Amanda Gill, Heather Boulby and Jane Fellows, all play multiple roles in various sketches and monologues ranging from the humorous to the more emotional and true-to-life. A total of four dramas, two monologues and an eerie story in one evening’s performance showed the range of different characterisations, dialogue, storylines and different accents that the talented actors had to create. They achieved all this brilliantly while showcasing a range outside the constraints of a full-length play.

The musical interludes were delightful as Heather Boulby entertained us with well-known songs in her lovely singing voice. Playing classical piano pieces, she was accompanied by Caroline Goddard on the violin and viola, and this all enriched the evening

Everything was well thought-out and directed as always and the whole thing ran very smoothly. The props, sound effects, music and lighting all enhanced the various situations. The monologues were written by members past and present including “Wartime Monologues” by the sadly missed John Emms.

This was a very enjoyable production, and the audience were encouraged to join in the last songs of the evening: “Blue Moon” and “Moon River”. I’m sure that most of us went home not only singing these songs but also with a smile on our faces.

Thank you for the invite and hospitality and a lovely evening out.
