This production of Oliver by Wakefield West Riding Theatre Company was first class in every possible way not a single square peg in a round hole with this brilliant cast. On the Thursday evening I visited the Thieves team of boys were on stage and gave most enjoyable routines of 'Food Glorious Food' 'Consider Yourself' and 'You've Got to Pick a Pocket or Two'. Oliver (Noah Firth) and Dodger (Brandon Fletcher) both were outstanding performing with absolute confidence in both singing and acting. Nancy (Grace English) I have seen a number of very good Nancy's but I think Grace just about tops them all with superb acting and a fantastic voice. Fagin (David Hookham) This is a role that David has reprised a number of times I don't think you could get a better one! Bill Sikes (James Tennant) I am sure that I was not the only one who thought Oliver Reed was on stage he was perfect in every way and had a perfect dog (Bullseye) to complete the picture. Mr, Bumble (Steven Holt) and Widow Corney (Rachel Marshall) again perfect casting their performance of the 'I Shall Scream' number was just wonderful in both singing and acting it was just fantastic with great direction by the producer. I could carry on about the rest of the cast they were all very high class performers in their own right with many memorable credits in their C.V.'s. The stage set again was up to the very high standard this show requires as was the very excellent orchestra. It was indeed a fine night.
