Oliver is without doubt one of the great musicals of the post war era being popular with both theatre companies and audiences alike for the wonderful acting and singing roles it affords. The casting was very strong in all parts with the title role of Oliver (Tyler Warren) being superbly played his singing and acting was amazing (I wonder where he gets it from?) he was well supported by Libby Phillips as the Artful Dodger who was very lively and sung very well. David Hookham as Fagin is like old wine he just keeps getting better and better in this type of part. Christine Shoesmith was a fine Nancy singing and acting with the fine style and confidence she is noted for. Nick Wade gave us a most powerful 'hateful' performance as the villain Bill Sikes which he played very well. I could go on about all the remaining principals as the casting was so strong I will surfice by saying that they were all brilliant. Fagin's Gang were very well organised and sung well and the chorus gave us a most spirited 'Oom-Pah-Pah' number with Nancy to open the second half. The backing tapes were well chosen and organised - not easy for such a big show. A most enjoyable evening.
