The society is not classed as a “youth” society so what a delight to see so many young people on the stage so obviously enjoying themselves.
I saw Evan Cochrane as Oliver and Ellie Boswell as The Artful Dodger, Evan had the “aww “ factor and had a very pleasant voice, I was surprised that “Dodger” was a girl but Ellie played the lad very well,
Mrs Sowereberry Louise Cochrane had good comedy timing and did well with the very difficult “I shall Scream” number, whilst Mr Bumble ( Andrew Rigden) was not the Mr Bumble we usually expect but he did a lovely rendition of “Who will Buy”
Graham Bryant (Fagin) always gives a good performance and this was no exception.
Bill Sykes, did a great job on the usually very boring “My Name” and had menace, not what I was expecting when I saw his photo in the programme.
Mr and Mrs Sowerberry, (Nick Skinner and Louise Cochran) these are great comedy roles and the couple both did the parts justice
For me personally Tess Morgan (Nancy) gave the stand out performance, such emotion in her voice.
Chorus interacted well and again had obviously worked very hard, “Who Will Buy” was one of the best versions of that number I had heard for a long while (my own production included)
The whole production moved well and considering you had a relatively young cast and production team; it was a credit to the society.
The orchestra was good and considering I was sitting quite near, it did not overpower.
