“Oliver” was the ideal choice for this youth group. They tackled it with great enthusiasm and looked as if they were enjoying every moment of it. This lively performance was given good pace by the Director Emily Hughes and the young players received sensitive musical backing from the Musical Director Tom Morgan. The impressive stage set helped the atmosphere greatly and was moved with great precision by Gareth Edwards and his hard working crew.

The company was led by a feisty performance from young Cassie John who’s powerful voice belied her tender years and she was well partnered by Evan Jones as the evil Bill Sykes. Anne Marie Palmer gave a most sincere performance as the young Oliver and I was particularly impressed by the dynamic playing of Daniel Strogen as the Dodger – quite a performance !!

Thomas Hearn as Fagin shows that he has emerged as an impressive character performer and his blossoming should ensure a bright future for him on the local stage. Once again Ethan Reed took command of his role as Bumble and gained many a good laugh along the way, ably assisted by Sian Bolton as Widow Corney.

All the company numbers were given great attack by this young company and everyone left the Theatre on a high note.
