Having seen Nunsense a few times and found it very funny I went to see this sequel hoping it was just as entertaining and I was not disappointed. The Nuns were staging a “Thank You” show for the support given in their original dilemma and having been bitten by the bug of performance. It is a spectacle on singing, dancing and comedy.
The staging is simple as the theatre they are rehearsing in is ready for the next production of Mikado, there are also rumours of a talent scout in the audience and Franciscans plotting to kidnap one of the Nuns for a ransom. This Society is known for it’s excellent singers which suited the opening choral number Jubilate Deo.
All the cast were strong singers and obviously enjoyed themselves enormously. Reverend Mother (Sue Morris) a kindly performance with some very well delivered put down comments when Sister Hubert (Patricia Brennan) got above herself. Sister Robert Anne (Paige Alexandra) who just wanted to perform, Sister Leo (Anne Woodhouse ) who just wanted to dance and ended up dancing with a scooter. I must give a special mention for Sister Amnesia (Rachel Rogers), forgetful after being hit by a crucifix in the original Nunsense, in sparkly cowboy boots ran a game of Nun Bingo with the audience which ended with the whole audience winning and later sang No-one Cared Like You along with a puppet which she handled exceptionally much to the appreciation of the audience. Other Nuns were played by. Tracey Corina, Helen Forsyth, Kay Green. Stephanie Honey, Heather McBride, Janet Savile, Anna Tiffany, Sue Varley.
Making the show complete were the Franciscans (Peter McDonnell, Robert Davison and Aaron Holton) who dressed as Nuns and joined in while working on their plot. The audience really enjoyed the What Would Elvis Do number where three Elvises appeared. At the end of the First Act a full stage tap dance showed off the hard work of Choreographer Janet Fletcher.
The excellent singing under the Musical Director Graham Robbins accompanied by synthesizer Michael P Gilroy. Wardrobe Frances Dolan, so many Nuns outfits to provide, Lighting Brian Biggin and Stage Crew Karl Boggis and Michael Mallinson had all worked hard to make this super show.
Congratulations to the Director Steve Tetlow it was a thoroughly enjoyable show.
Well done to all concerned.
