On the hanky size stage a simple set created by frames had been created giving the impression of a room blueprint, this was innovative and different and worked well, creating more room for the actors although I would have been inclined to have also stylised the furnishings to be more in keeping with the design, but what we had worked well and was utilised well by the performers. Lighting and sound was also thoughtfully produced and some good use of music was incorporated during interludes.

The extremely long and detailed monologue which began the piece by Hilda set the scene and we then were plunged into the gossip and life of the Bluebell Hill Development. Martin Massie the main focal of the piece was played with strength and focus, this extremely experienced actor held our attention throughout. We felt for poor Magda as she was pushed, bullied and ignored by her bullish husband Luther. Both actors again highly experienced and well-cast. Dorothy’s obvious nosy behaviour brought some laughter along with the vague shyness of Gareth.

This was the night of the mega thunderstorms and the air was oppressive but the technical crew did a magnificent job of keeping the show on the road when the thunder roared and lightening cracked and all the electricity failed, not to be held back the show was quickly back up and running and met its conclusion.

It is always a pleasure to see the challenges set in the Roadwater Village hall and this was no exception, well done everyone.
