Entering the most intimate of theatres from a cold and damp evening is always a pleasure at the Chesil Theatre and I was warmly welcomed by their Chairman Stephanie Danby and the rest of the front of house team. Chesil Theatre is a small seventy seater venue converted from an old Saxon church in Winchester, They always make the best use (or opportunity as they like to refer to it) with regard to lighting, sound and set.
Nasty Neighbours, is as the title suggests, just about that, but in a deeply black and very humorous way. The cast of six were all involved in the plot and story line, whether that be the young, ever arguing couple on one side (Hannah Ley and Neil Maddock), the older, nosey, uptight, short of money, neighbourhood watch types next door (David Baldwin and Maria Head), or the third couple that moved to Australia just to get away from them! (Paul Riddell and Gina Hough). All the characterisation were perfect and each part believable. The diction was very good - every word could be heard perfectly and the story was therefore very easy to follow. It was delivered at a very good pace so it flowed freely. What lighting there was complimented the set perfectly and there were no breaks or set changing black outs.
I always look forward to coming to Chesil, their productions are of a very high quality and Heather Bradford as Director and the rest of her team made this no exception. A thoroughly enjoyable evening.
