My Fair Lady is probably the most famous rags to riches story ever told, it's certainly my favourite. After a few years off the amateur scene, it was an absolute delight to see this timeless classic again.

Now, for My Fair Lady to be a success it realises heavily on the characters of Henry Higgins and Eliza Doolittle. This company had no need to worry when they cast David Wrightam and Julie Whitfield in these roles. These two were sensational, and, quite possibly the best Higgins and Eliza I have seen to date. David's portrayal of Higgins made him more comical than perhaps we are used too, but this worked so well, making Higgins so much more likeable than that of previous productions I had seen. His rendition of 'I've grown accustomed to her face' was so emotional it made me tear up. Julie's 'Eliza' was a triumph, just like Eliza's appearance at the ball. From  cockney flower girl to Lady, Julie was every inch the Eliza that we picture in our heads. She also has a powerhouse of a voice, making all Eliza's songs a joy to listen too, especially 'I could have danced all night'.

These two were very well supported by David Harthill as Colonel Pickering, loved the bull in 'The Rain In Spain'. Sue Lomas as Mrs Pearce and Sandra Dickinson who shone as Mrs Higgins. My best friend gets married next month, I wonder if Sandra will let me borrow the hat she wore in the Ascot Gavotte?

Fresh from his appearance in 'Spamalot' Lee Caddick impressed again with good vocals as Freddy Eynsford - Hill. Now, where would My Fair Lady be without Alfred P Doolittle? Gary Holmes was perfect in this role. His 'I'm getting Married in the Morning' had me clapping and singing along and was a pure delight to watch. I do wonder however how many more audience members were beginning to 'scratch' their necks along with Doolittle, Higgins and Pickering in the study? I know I was. All the principals were backed up by a wonderfully sounding ensemble.

Congratulations must be given to Geoff Whitfield who directed it and Ian Price, who's orchestra were so superb, I thought it was a backing track.

Many thanks for an enjoyable evening and i will see you all again for Guys and Dolls.
