“Musicality. Take Two” follows on from the success of the first award winning Musicality in 2017. A lot to live up to but they managed it in spades! This production was jam packed with fantastic songs from at least 45 musicals, which absolutely thrilled the audience. Choreography was inspired and the singing both from the soloists and the chorus was mesmerizing.
Lighting was all-important as there was no scenery apart from a raised platform at the back with a backdrop, incorporating a screen. Harvey Ebbage’s lighting design was excellent but my biggest gripe is spotlights directed at the audience and suddenly shining in their eyes. The back projection again was all-important and portrayed the show that we were listening to, without us having to refer to the programme. The recorded music must have taken a lot of time to engineer but it worked and didn’t overwhelm the cast.
It would be unfair to mention individuals because each and every soloist gave some powerful and emotional renditions of their various songs. The chorus and dancers gave their all and best of all they looked like they were enjoying themselves! Each show excerpt flowed seamlessly on to the next. They must have been exhausted by the end of the evening – I certainly was!
LAMPS you can be proud of what you have achieved. It was a most enjoyable evening’s entertainment.
