I don’t think there could have a better way to kick start the new season than with Wales Community Theatre Company and their production of Musicality. Congratulations must be given to first time director, Alison Wade and Musical Director Ray Gallagher, for putting together a programme full of variety and not just the standard songs from the musicals, as often happens in a musical concert.

With a large cast of 45 people on a very small stage, each movement has to be worked out to perfection. Jess Lyons, step forward and take a bow. The choreography was stunning and fitted each section perfectly. I particularly liked the ‘Thriller’ choreography. It’s was as if MJ himself had been resurrected in Dan Schofield.

WCTP has a large membership, which includes lots of children. The children in this show were great. Form the smallest to the tallest, they all knew the words and moves to each number. I must mention Jessica Wade who was the cutest ‘Annie’ I have ever seen and her rendition of ‘Tomorrow’ was wonderful. Also, Cohyn Wilks and Scarlet Buxton who were both full of energy during their Number of ‘Bop to the Top’ from High School Musical’

The adults were in fine voice also. Special mention must go to Taryn Froggatt, who sang with passion and feeling during her solo number from ‘Hairspray’. Newcomer to the company, Hayley Buxton, danced her way across the stage like a pro and was simply captivating.

However, the night belonged to the songbird, which is Alison Wade. Her rendition of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ was the highlight of the night.

One small criticism would be, that on the night I attended there were some problems with  feedback and crackling of the microphones, however, this is no fault of the performers.

From Baltimore to the Australian outback, it was pure entertainment for two hours. Congratulations WCTP.
