First of all, I must start this review by saying a great big thank you to Jenifer Cahill and the rest of the front of house team, who made us feel so welcome and displayed excellent hospitality to John and I. It really was first rate, and much appreciated.

After not performing for over two years, Thurcroft Musical Theatre Group are back with a bang. From Baltimore to New York to Saigon, this concert had something for everyone. The concert well put together by director, Daniel Comer, and featured some good choreography by Sam Walker, which every member of the cast could perform. The harmonies were a delight to listen too and credit must be given to Musical Director, Ray Gallagher, who must have worked very hard with the cast to produce a great sound.

Emma Hatton worked her socks off throughout the night and consistently delivered fine vocals in many of her numbers, including, Good Morning Baltimore, Journey to the Past, where she was joined on stage by Sue Hatton. My favourite number of Emma’s came in Act 2 where she performed, You Can Always Count On Me. A great performance. One of the many crowd pleasers of the evening, came from six of the society’s leading lady’s. Katie Marsh, Jess Carroll, Ruth Gallagher, Tanvia Holden, Hannah Holden and Lauren Firth performed the title number from Six. This certainly got the audience tapping away and was performed with gusto. However, for me the performance of the evening came from Tanvia Holden who performed He’s My Boy. The emotion was real, every note was crisp and clear and it simply blew me away. An exceptional performance.

The men were also in fine voice and had great stage presence. Sam Bates, once again proved what a versatile performer he is by performing Bui Doi from Miss Saigon. Having directed this young performer in the past, mainly in comedy roles, it was a pleasure to watch Sam perform something serious. A bright future is certainly ahead for this young man. Daniel Comer, created plenty of laughs with his rendition of You’ll Be Back from Hamilton, and his Timoen was side  splittingly funny.

The night wasn’t without emotion. The society, sadly lost their director just before Christmas in a tragic accident, and the society touchingly paid tribute to Anne Giblin, who loved this group and had given this group so much over the years.

Many thanks to everyone for your hospitality. The pie and peas was delicious. I’m looking forward to seeing what this talented group does next.
