The West Moors Singers gave us a programme of musical favourites as diverse as opera, hymns and modern musical theatre, all intertwined with the amusing and informative banter of compere Chris Wilson.  With a new Musical Director and a new Accompanist, I gained the impression that the Singers were exploring some new avenues, sometimes a little tentatively, but always with enjoyment.  The men sang There is Nothing Like a Dame with enthusiasm; the Yip! in Oklahoma had a startling energy; the Do-re-mi tongue-twister was a challenge which brought a smile to the Singers’ faces. The concert was entertaining and varied, with a mixture of meditative and lively numbers presented as a mix of instrumentals, solo, duet and choral singing, and even a little audience participation.  With jewel-coloured satin jackets and lighting to match, there was always something to catch the eye.

Debussy’s Clair de Lune was an impressive introduction to the new Accompanist, and with two saxophone pieces and an acoustic guitar, we were spoiled for instrumental talent.

Vocal highlights included: Love Changes Everything; All I Ask of You; the Joseph Medley; Vilja; Amazing Grace; Cathy’s Song and the Rodgers and Hammerstein Medley, with which the Singers brought the evening to a rousing conclusion.

A very pleasant evening, which the audience thoroughly appreciated.
