Crowthorne Musical Players are becoming quite proficient at taking advantage of the Wilde Theatre’s Monday night venue hire offer by staging their third musical review in tribute to Composers as a society fund raiser. Having previously paid tribute to Sondheim and Rogers and Hammerstein, they turned to the works of Andrew Lloyd Webber. It once again proved a sell out success and a great showcase and development opportunity for the society members.

While ALW’s work is well known it was a pleasure to hear a selection from all his shows which showed there is a greater musical range and tastes than he is sometime given credit for and a huge catalogue of great songs to choose from. Thirty-one songs were selected, presented by show titles and providing opportunities for  twenty-six members to lead the singing which they all did with great skill and confidence backed by a lovely four-piece band. The Compere linked the songs with great wit and humour bringing it all together perfectly.

However, the real treat was the cast of six children who stole the show with the wonderful versions of “No matter what” from Whistle down the wind , “Stick it to the man” from School of Rock and then leading off the lovely Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee song. They were a charming group singing with great confidence, full of animation and energy and showing real potential as performers.

A very successful and enjoyable show which provided a great tribute to the work of ALW and promises great things to come from Crowthorne Musical Players.
