Thurcroft Musical Theatre Group’s production of Music and More got off to a great start with a Blues Brothers selection featuring Martin Farthing, Adrian Powell and the full company, this was followed by a virtual cornucopia of songs, sketches and dancing to suit everyone and judging by the applause they received after each section and at the end of the show the entire audience loved it.
It was obvious a great deal of thought had gone into the choice of music and selections in this piece and the Producer Anne Giblin must be applauded for her hard work in coming up with the various and varying choices.
This show included some excellent singing and I especially enjoyed Mark Hague’s rendition of This is the Moment from the hit musical Jekyll and Hyde, this was lovely and gave Mark a chance to show off his fine singing voice.
The first half closed with a selection of songs from the musical Cats again featuring the full company with some fine singing and creative dancing and movement.
The opening of the second half of the programme featured the music of Into The Woods, not an easy choice for anyone to do this being the music of Stephen Sondheim. The soloists and the company tackled this music with great professionalism and succeeded to deliver much to the delight of the audience.
I mentioned earlier this show also contained some comedy sections and sketches and I particularly enjoyed the Four Yorkshiremen sketch with Peter Cahill, Mark Hague, Daniel Corner and Stuart Roxburgh who were all trying to outdo each other by relating tales of how bad their childhood was, this was a really funny interlude.
Following on with selections from Calamity Jane, Whistle Down The Wind and Les Miserables the show was closed with a selection from Wicked and it was good to hear some of the lesser known songs being presented rather than the usual ones we tend to hear most of the time. In this selection mention must be made of Katy Marsh who sang and performed the songs of Elphaba with Anne Giblin as Glinda, both these two ladies were superb and almost brought the house down with the very moving finale.
Many congratulations to everyone involved and best wishes for the rest of the week.
