One of the most famous of Agatha Christie’s plays was the one chosen by the drama section of this Society.

The setting is on board the paddle steamer Lotus steaming on the Nile.

The first 15 minutes or so of the play is spent introducing the various characters, but the arrival of the “femme fatale “ Jacqueline De Swerac ( Amanda Matthews } sees the tempo of the piece quicken.Amanda is a strong performer and is exactly what was needed.

It was good to see Mary Gardner – now President of the Society – playing the part of Miss ffoliot – ffoulkes – an aristocrat lady travelling with her maid, Christina Grant (Flora Kerridge ).

Paul Smith  as Lord Dawlish, travelling incognito as Smith, was well cast and Robert Gairey maintained a gutteral accent Dr Bessner although at times it was difficult to catch every word.

Simon Mostyn (Carl Harrison )) and Kay Mostyn ( Kayleigh Watts ) were the two newly weds on their honeymoon. Ffion Cancelliere as Louise – Kay’s maid – was delightful.

In the stage version of the play there is no place for Hercule Poirot and it is left to another passenger Canon Pennefather to unravel the mystery and how well he did just that!

A nice clean and very workable set with good costumes and a very strong cast made for a most enjoyable evening.

Thank you PODS for the invite.
