MURDER IS SERVED by Jo West is a comedy whodunnit set in a restaurant, Chez Lindsay, with a cast of characters ripe and ready for murder.  There’s the disagreeable wealthy old lady, Clarissa, the Spanish Chef, the waitress who is having an affair with the restaurant owner and the entertainer and his wife.  As the evening progressed, motives mounted up and each cast member seemed to have a motive for the removal of Alice Roper (Clarissa’s downtrodden companion) the deceased.   But maybe, she wasn’t the intended victim?  Both she and Clarissa were dressed similarly and it was very dark.

The action took place at floor level as part of the restaurant setting where the audience were seated, with a simple set to accommodate entrances and exits.  The hall was decorated with flags, banners, and themed menus. They made good use of the space. The costumes were ideal with each character being well defined by their outfit.

The characters were well cast and this was a play with great characters: the over the top chef, sleazy restaurant proprietor having an affair with the waitress and the deceased. There was the wealthy old lady, the entertainer (her son)  and his wife purporting to be a Texan heiress who was not what she seemed!   After the murder, Joan Warren, as Lady Petronella Greenwood, led the investigation and invited questions from the audience so as to establish facts of the case and there was also a quiz.  At the end of the evening all the loose ends were tied up and a fun evening was had by all.
