Once again New Forest Players never fail to have an excellent set, this time a top floor luxury apartment complete with patio door and balcony overlooking the Sussex Coast. This whodunit play by Edward Taylor is full of tension, intrigue and comedy moments, that keep you on the edge of your seat until the end.  The director Robin Ede has worked well with the cast and the pace is good.

The two main characters are scriptwriters who have won awards for their writting. They are working on their next script ‘the perfect crime’. David Luker plays Harold Kent, the one who has invested his money wisely and now lives with his wife Emma, played by Liz Lock. Alan Whitty is the other writer (Paul Riggs) who has spent most of his money on women and gambling and has the bookies' heavies always on the lookout for him.

Harold wants to go solo and break up the partnership but Paul needs them to stay together for the money and threatens to reveal a secret from Harold’s past. Harold decides his only option is murder and begins to plot and put in place ‘the perfect crime’.

There are some great moments between Harold and Paul and they have a good chemistry between them. Emma gets dragged into the murder but is not as keen to get rid of Paul as her husband, but goes along with it. Paul comes to look after their flat while they leave for a six week holiday, this is where we have some great twists and turns to see if Harold will go ahead with his plans.

On their return, they find that Paul is no longer on the balcony but there is a dead seagull and a blood stained ladies jacket. In walks Christopher Fradd as Inspector Egan. He also plays his part very well and asks lots of questions about the missing Paul, always being one step ahead and picking up on anything that Harold or Emma say. Will he catch him out? Will more secrets come out? When Paul returns, will he take his revenge on Harold? All this made for a very enjoyable evening.

Well done cast and crew a great night. Thank you.
