“Murder by Misadventure “by Edward Taylor is a very well written play; it has everything needed for a classic murder mystery and keeps the audience guessing right up to the last minute as to how it will all end!  Nice touch, using famous television detectives theme tunes between scenes. It helped create a great atmosphere. It had me entranced from beginning to end.
The set was very well done indeed, as a luxury penthouse flat with all the trimmings, curtains and wall paper to match along with the French windows and balcony, the scenery team should take a bow. But why oh why do we need the prompt to be so visible, a distraction for some of the audience.
The cast, consisting of just four, could not be faulted, all playing their roles very well indeed.
Harold Kent walked and talked the older man to perfection and was every inch the fussy perfectionist writer,(a young actor whose theatre skills, learned on the professional stage, were evident)his partner Paul Riggs, the blackmailer was played with great aplomb, the hard drinking but charming ducker and diver. Great job!
Emma Kent, Harold’s wife was portrayed very well indeed, butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth, however!!!!!!  The portrayal of Inspector Egan was very convincing and performed with an easy and relaxed manner and with great conviction. One of the best performances I have seen from this actor. The timing was spot on and suspense maintained throughout. When a” body” fell out the cupboard, most of the audience jumped out of their skins (me included!) This was murder with a real twist.
I have grown to expect a lot from Exmouth Players and they did not disappoint.  Great direction; something I have also grown to expect from a very talented director in Wendy Bishop.
This was a real treat of an evening well spent.
