One certain sure fire hit at Christmas is for a society to perform Dickens’s ”A Christmas Carol” or in the case of this society do John Kelly’s adaptation “Mr. Scrooge”, and this was indeed a sure fire hit with the audience who were in the same night as I was there.
After a little slow start the show quickly moved on and we had the well known tale of Ebenezer Scrooge in song and dance. Playing the title role was well known performer Bill Moss who was excellent, he was on stage for around 90% of the whole show and never once did he show any signs of faltering in his performance in lines or song and indeed dance moves.
This show had a big cast but the stage never appeared to be crowded, all the chorus had been well versed in the best use of the stage and also in their entrances and exits which I have to say can on some occasions in other shows look like the exit crowd from a football match, this was not the case for this show.
There were also some good performances from Martyn Lees as The Ghost of Jacob Marley and Mr. Fezziwig, Adrian Smith as The Ghost of Christmas Present and Danny Dawkins and also from Edmund Bell as Old Joe, all three are well seasoned performers and all used their talents to the best advantage.
One scene which I particularly enjoyed was The Mist of Christmas Future where the talents of Pat Demetriou as Dottie Dilber, Jo Smith as Mrs. Prosser and Belinda Lindley as Jenny were able to shine,
Special mention must also be made of Alex Csucko as Young Scrooge and Charlotte Woodward as Belle, they were brilliant together, I also enjoyed Charlotte’s singing of The Rolling of the Year with Mrs. Fezziwig played by Wendy Prew.
Well done LMTC for a great start to the Christmas period.
