MOTHER GOOSE PAIGNTON PANTOMIME PRODUCTIONS Palace Theatre Paignton Director Iain Douglas MD John Amery Choreographer Elaine Johnson This was a Pantomime that had a lot going for it; believable scenery, lovely costumes, good lighting, excellent music and great special effects with a cast that brought the whole thing to life. The goose “Priscilla” did her job well, she was a great mover and showed skill in expressing feelings and emotion without words or facial expression. The dancers were beautifully dressed and danced superbly. The choreographer is to be congratulated The singing was excellent and everyone could be heard. Demon Discontent had a wonderfully seductive voice and was very convincing. The King and Queen of Goose Land made a great couple, although not afforded the regality they deserved. A bit more pomp and deference would have been good. The ghost played the part well and flowed as a ghost should, the costume was particularly convincing. The pool complete with fountain and great lighting was nothing short of fantastic It looked simply wonderful and when Mother Goose went into the pool we were treated to wonderful music and dancing and a great build up for the traditional transformation . She looked fantastic on her return but it was a pity that she entered from the wings and not back through the pool, which detracted from the overall impact that this pivotal moment should have. Mother Goose played the part well but this particular script did not allow for the warmth, which is so much part of this eponymous character, to be fully expressed. This resulted in the change from a lovable mother figure to a greedy and vain one being less emphasised and obvious than is desirable in this essentially moral tale. This was a wonderful night of sheer Panto magic, from the very beginning from the large golden egg on stage to the traditional water squirting over the audience. This Pantomime is one to remember for all the right reasons, Oh yes it is! . Congratulations to Iain and all concerned. Graham Liverton N.O.D.A. rep
